Since the inception of the law criminalizing homosexuality in Nigeria, there have been major efforts by every state to cleanse itself of what they call abomination.” Prominent among them being the northern states, where the activities of the radical Boko Haram are fully in force, villages like Nkpor, Ogidi and Obosi in the eastern state of Anambra have declared war on homosexuality which is gaining grounds because of what the people call “exposure to foreign life style.”
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the re-scheduled re-run March 19th election for the Rivers East Senatorial District , Oha Andrew Uchendu, in his Port Harcourt resident, while addressing members of the Rivers State Independent Publishers Association, RIVPA declared that he would beat his opponent in the forth coming re-run election silly in a free, fair, and credible election.
Oha Uchendu said, anything short of that is an aberration, going by the political realities on ground in the state.
He said with a Representative as Jesila Ghan, there cannot be free, fair and credible elections in the state vis a vis Nigeria.
A veteran human Right activist in the Niger Delta and Senior Advocate of Niger Delta, SAND Rev. Dr. Sokari Soberekon had advocated for peace in the Niger Delta sub-region of the country.
Soberekon made the call while addressing journalists in his office in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital.
He said, the call became necessary at heel of recent collaboration between some Niger Delta Youths and some Biafra agitators in the country that led to the hijacking of a cargo ship within the Nigeria river sometime ago.
The Senior Advocate noted that violence would not do the citizenry any good and was the case during the Civil War that saw over 3 million persons lost their life in a war that could had been prevented by both gladiators involved in the war.
